Kiefel Automotive: Cost saving potential in the production of interior trim parts.

    28 Nov 2017

It was a successful Technology Day Automotive on 09. November 2017 in Livonia, MI – USA. The event focused on potential for saving material and costs in the production of interior components, such as door panels, instrument panels and centre consoles.

In the talks, Kiefel, ITW-Dynatec, SWA, Benecke - Hornschuch Surface Group, Evans, WEBER, MADAG presented new technologies and technical solutions, and together with GS Engineering, Hennecke, Jowat, HAARTZ and PROCHIMIR, and the partner companies, provided a comprehensive trade exhibition in the Kiefel Technology Center.

Numerous experts from the US automotive industry participated in the lively discussions and information exchange.

Wolfgang Eglseer, Sales Director of Automotive Industry at Kiefel: "We want to drive forward technology and innovation with our customers as well as communicate knowledge. And we are on the right path, as demonstrated especially by our newly introduced concepts and solutions for material saving, space saving and automation which impressed the participants."

Eglseer presented Kiefel's recently developed FLF vacuum laminating technology (Flexible Laminating Frame). Savings up to 40% in material consumption compared to conventional processes, are possible, whilst simultaneously reducing the degree of film stretching and minimizing the installation footprint.

The newly developed VarioTrim punching device was presented by Rainer Kürten, Technical Director at SWA. This machine is completely customised to customer requirements and was successfully introduced to the market this year. In addition to efficient punching of openings in instrument panels, the greatest amount of possible variants, as well as minimal installation area, the tool change is also a USP.

Key Note Speaker Michael Taylor, of MDT World Consulting. Inc., fascinated listeners with his lecture "Where is the Global Automotive Market Heading?"

"We are pleased that this annual meeting of the North American automotive industry was so well received", reports Andreas Frisch, Director of Automotive Industry at Kiefel. "The exhibited vehicle, a Mercedes GLC, for which Kiefel supplied the door laminating machines, also drew a lot of attention from our visitors. We will come up with something special again for the next year."
