Brückner Maschinenbau and R-Cycle launch a new video

To illustrate the current challenges of a circular economy, Brückner Maschinenbau has created a new video in cooperation with R-Cycle. It shows why a large part of the plastic waste and in particular also food packaging cannot be recycled to high-quality applications again: They are either sorted too uncleanly or cannot be recycled at all because of the composition of various materials.

In addition, the video demonstrates the necessary prerequisites for a packaging to be processed into premium recyclate. Material properties as well as printing inks and adhesives play a role here. To test the process, a crisp bag was produced, meeting all these characteristics: Recyclable packaging with a digital watermark.

However, recyclable films alone are not enough, and neither is improved sorting. The combination of these two factors is the key to a circular economy that works. For this, all players along the value chain are needed. This is the idea behind the "R-Cycle" consortium: To provide packaging with a digital product passport that automatically contains all the relevant information for recycling and accompanies the packaging along the value chain. This should soon be available to everyone.

Brückner Maschinenbau has been an active member of the consortium from the very beginning, as we want to live up to our role as a technology leader here as well. Thinking about tomorrow today is the keyword. We have therefore brought together suitable partners along the value chain and initiated the crisp bag project. In this way, we want to demonstrate how the circular economy can work. If you want to know more, read the full story here:  https://r-cycle.org/en/chips-packaging/

    About R-Cycle
R-Cycle is a cross-company initiative to develop an open and globally applicable tracing standard for sustainable plastic packaging. The aim is to automatically record recycling-relevant packaging properties during production by providing a digital product passport and to pass them on through the value chain. Recyclable packaging can then be identified in the recycling process via special markings and fed into pure waste fractions. This is the key to obtaining high-quality recyclates to close the loop.

    The R-Cycle consortium
Arburg, Brückner Maschinenbau, Comexi, European EPC Competence Center GmbH (EECC), Erema Group, GS1 Germany, Institut für Kunststoffverarbeitung (IKV), Kampf, Kautex Maschinenbau, Multivac, Prodata, Reifenhäuser Group, Steinert

The R-Cycle consortium will be an open community for everyone soon, interested to join? Contact us at r-cycle@brueckner.com
